FAMUly and Friends:
Happy 2012! 2011 gave us all a lot to be happy about and I know 2012 will undoubtedly be bigger and better. However, we’ve stumbled upon some tough times. The unstable political, social, and economic atmospheres of our country have rapidly trickled their way down to the state of Florida, city of Tallahassee, and most importantly Florida A&M University. At a time when our university is dealing with an array of issues (both internal and external), unity is what we all need. We are all young adults bound for success with enormous potential. Being away from the comforts and familiarities of home truly highlights the importance of using this opportunity we’ve been blessed with to constantly build together.
2012 will indeed be a new year. It will be the year that we set aside our egos for the benefit of collective progression. It will be the year we unify in not only thoughts and words, but also in actions and deeds. It will be the year that we use positivity and faith to combat the ills of society. It will be the year filled with togetherness and resilience. It will be the year that we, as a university, truly live as a FAMUly.
With these things in mind, I charge you to truly live in the moment because yesterday is gone and tomorrow never actually comes. Think not only about what this year will bring to you, but what you will bring into it. Operate within the sphere of Love and avoid Fear at all costs. We are indeed all we have and as the largest HBCU in the universe, there is nothing we can’t do as one. Don’t hesitate to give inspiration, receive advice, or spread Love. Go FORTH. Be BOLD.
“It isn’t the mountain ahead to climb that wears you out. It’s the pebble in your shoe.” –Cassius Clay
Much Love,
